| Art to me is so many things, it's difficult to describe in just a few sentences. The creative process is rarely straightforward, sometimes stumbling, usually wandering, and always rewarding. I prefer working in abstract, non-representational themes that seem to be on the edge of something representational. I like to keep ideas and interpretations open for others to enjoy. Some themes have a dark undertone, some playful, but all are a reflection of some facet of my own inner self. Hopefully I have been successful in creating pieces that speak to others in some positive way.
On being an artist: To be an artist is to be on a journey of introspection and self-discovery. Art is a religion, a philosophy of living, so to speak. Seeing the world and interpreting one's place within it requires a certain amount of mindfulness and contemplation. Being mindful of one's self and one's surroundings broadens awareness, and hopefully develops compassion for all living things. |
